Expat food cravings

No matter how well adjusted expats become to the food available in their current country of abode there are always a few cravings from back home (usually unhealthy) that just can't be ignored. Mine is mostly of the Tex-Mex variety but I do have to confess that one of the others is the packaged instant ramen noodles...yes, I know you don't get much more unhealthy than those but adding a handful of kale and not using the flavouring pack lessens the evil somewhat (right???).  After a bit of snooping around the local shops I have discovered that I can at least fulfil that particular urge.

After extensive research (hey, someone has to do it!) I've narrowed it down to these two options from Tesco and Aldi (in other words those two shops are the ones closest to me). The Aldi version is 100g for 18p, Tesco is 65g for 20p--I'm sure you can guess which one I buy most often! Ostensibly the former is 2 servings per packet but does anyone really believe that? That ranks up there with the suggested serving size of cereals.  With that settled, recommendations for GOOD Mexican or Tex-Mex in England would be very much appreciated!

No run and and a mini rant

This weekend has been a bust for working out, I'd planned a long run meet up for Saturday morning only to wake up about an hour before my alarm went off with a swollen and sore throat, scratchy eyes, feeling achy all over and dizzy spells whenever I tried to move about. No fever thankfully and I think it was one of those times when my body has decided that I've done too much and it was going to shut me down in the quickest way possible. Blech.  First words out of my partner's mouth after he finally woke up was "Wow, you sound terrible".  Yep, no running or working out for the weekend after all, grrrrrrrrr. I am much better today and hope to get back in the groove tomorrow *fingers crossed*.

Today was spent doing some research for an upcoming day trip which meant I got a little lost on youtube chasing after only sort of related videos, a couple of which were from Americans who had recently visited Great Britain and Ireland. One recurring thing I hear a lot is about how terrible the food is and I just don't get it (yes, I've ranted about this before, lol). This one girl just whined on and on about the horrible food and that even the fast food places tasted "different" and "not right", needless to say the comments were disabled for that vid because I'm guessing she had been slammed for it. I'm not sure where they had been eating but it sounds like they never made it past the fish and chips shops or the motorway services.  I might miss certain foods but there is no shortage of deliciousness or variety about to partake of and I'm making it my mission to test out the gammon and egg in as many pubs as possible.

Can't. Stop. Sweating.

Oh yeah, the humidity the south is infamous for is rearing it's ugly head.    Woke up this morning and it was 68f/20c, very windy, and a slight sprinkle every so often.  Just enough to be a tease and not cool you down at all....even after 30 minutes and cleaning up I'm still all sweaty & yucky.

Couple that with a raging case of DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) and what do I decide to do? Go run up some freaking hills!!! Oh my....the uphills weren't so bad but those downhill sections nearly had me in tears a few times, OUCH :-(. And what's up with this being pushed back up the hill by the wind?

Despite all my grumbling it was a decent run. I didn't have to take a walk break and I managed to shake the morning grogginess.  Now if I could just quit sweating, I'd be a happy woman, lol.  Bring on the day! But mother nature, could you please calm down a little before I have to start driving? I kinda prefer keeping the truck and trailer in the same lanes as each other.

My reward? A traditional southern style breakfast with BACON!!
